Through out my life I have heard people refer to angels in many ways. Most comments are just what people want to believe. Most comments even though wrong, are meant to comfort or to be endearing. It seem like we have a lot of questions about angels and who are they and what do they do. After studying many articles and the Bible, here is what I have come up with.
The Bible only names three Angels ;
- Gabriel Who is a messenger
- Michael Who goes to battle
- Lucifer Who became Satan, is the one who opposes God.
So the first thing we know that is true is that angels have names. Let’s look at who angels are , who we are, and what angels do. These are a few questions and answers about angels. Once we are in heaven and live among the angels we will get to know them better.
What is an angel?
They are not human, they are created and do not die, (humans die)and (if angels rebel they are cast into the pits of hell and locked up there is no forgiveness, humans can be forgiven) nor can they be numbered. They are created to do the will of God. They do not have a gender, but can appear to humans in human form. They help and guide the believer, protect, and comfort them. (Notice I said believers) “Hebrews 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?”
What do angels do?
Angels were created to do God’s will. They are guards for humans, they guard the Tree of Life. They will minister to humans. They will go to battle when called upon. They will gather the elect of God in the end days. They will gather the wicked at the end of this age. They will make announcements, they will return with Christ in the second coming. Mark 8 :38 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
Do people become angels after they die?
Gen. 1: “26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So no! Angels were created to do the will of God. Angels are messengers who do the will of God, and cannot be redeemed, but people are the sons and daughter of God who are redeemed by God. So many time people will try and comfort other by saying their loved on who passed away is now a angel in heaven. But this is just not true. Angels are in a different realm than humans. They are in a angelic realm, humans have both a spiritual and a physical dimension. We do not become inhuman in heaven. We will be all that humans are capable of doing and have been created in the image of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit, and have been redeemed. We will still be male or female, angels have no gender. The only way we are like them in heaven is that there we will not be able to marry. When we , God’s children enter into heaven , we will worship God along with the angels and redeemed people from every race and background. (Rev. 7:9-12″9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
Are there evil angels?
The angels who have rebelled against God have nothing but evil intentions. These evil angels do the evil deeds of their master, Satan. As the angels of heaven do the work of the Lord . Scripture makes it clear that these evil angels do the work of the devil. They will try and to deceive and harm God’s people. They can even come in the form of a false prophet. An angelic appearance does not mean that God sent that angel. Evil angels can deceive humanity by bringing false teaching and another gospel. People who listens to fallen angels’ deception could even abandon their faith. In “1 Timothy 4:1, the Bible says that some people “will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.” Evil fallen angels won’t torment people forever, In Matthew 25:41 Jesus says that when the end of the world comes, the fallen angels will have to go to an “everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”
Are there different kinds of Angles? (answers from a online bible study)
Cherubim are a kind of angel created by God. They are powerful beings and are among those who were chosen by God not to fall (1 Tim. 5:21) in Satan’s rebellion. After Adam and Eve sinned, they were assigned to guard the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:24), presumably so Adam and Eve would not re-enter. God instructed that images of the cherubim be constructed upon the Mercy Seat which was over the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies (Exodus 25:18-22; 37:7). God is enthroned above the cherubim (2 Samuel 6:2; Psalm 99:1) as a reference to the Ark of the Covenant. Cherubim were constructed out of gold (Exodus 25:18; 1 Kings 6:28) and olive wood (1 Kings 6:23) as well as carved engravings (1 Kings 6:29; 2 Chronicles 3:7), and embroidered on the walls of the tabernacle (Exodus 26:1; 36:8) and on the veil (Exodus 26:31). They are described in Ezekiel 1:5-11 and carry out God’s purposes (Ezekiel 10:9-11). Seraphim are a kind of angel. “Seraph” means to burn. Seraphim are described as having faces, hands, and feet (this is an anthropomorphism) and are powerful creatures that do God’s will. They are mentioned twice in Scripture in Isaiah 6:2 and 6:6. They have six wings. They fly with two, cover their faces with two (probably signifying the radiant glory of God whom they behold and are unworthy to behold), and with the other two they cover their feet (probably signifying the respect due the radiant glory of God’s presence as being holy ground or possibly readiness to carry out God’s will). They appear to be involved with glorifying God and are in proximity to his throne.
